Try searching Google for “fast food“. Ive been doing some research on global brands and how there using SEO(more on this soon).
One thing i have noticed is how Google favors the big global brands. Why would Mcdonalds need to spend a penny on SEO when google is doing it for them? The term fast food might not exactly be ground breaking but it still brings in 135,000 searches a month according to adwords.

For the term “fast food” or “fast foods” Mcdonalds doesn’t actually rank well, but with Google on your side you can save thousands on PPC and brand awareness, i wonder what KFC or Burger King think about this?

Want to know if theres a dose of flu on the way? Ask Google!
Saw this today on Google.org, it shows the trends of searches for flu and flu related keyterms to estimate flu activity in your area quicker than most other more traditional methods.
Are Google really taking over the world? I think the theory behind this could be used in alot of other areas as we have seen with the recent American elections.

Try doing this search http://www.google.com/search?q=earth4energy although hopefully google will resolve the issue ASAP, Google adwords accounts or credit cards seem to be getting hacked and then using .cn domain to setup a temporary landing page to forward through a clickbank hop link.
Here’s the image i took at 22.30gmt

Ive heard about this a few times but never actually seen it live so to speak, hopefully Google will sort this out but will this mean for verification for webmasters.

Google’s related search feature seems to be a hit and miss affair, there’s been plenty wrote on the subject 1 2 to name just a few.
I very rarely see this feature when using google but whilst doing some testing today i noticed this for seo software and see the related search for this term, not the most ground breaking of searches i know but interesting to note the related search, now when this is reveresd it doesn’t show the original search.
I spent a good it of time trying to find other related searches but wasn’t able to, this could effect peoples serps as some sites will be targeting seo while other search engine optimisation, now i know only bad seo company’s will be doing this but we all know they exist.

Every search i make these days seems to containĀ a wiki result, when will google’s love affair with Wikipedia end? Alot of people know Google Knol would do this but as yet im seen very little impression in the serps.
An old post i know but some great information none the less from thegooglecache about how wikipedia ranks in the top 10 for over 96% of searches.
I get fed up of seeing them in the results as half the time i find the articles there really difficult to read because of the way wiki’s are set out, the information always looks disjointed and that fact that every other word seems to be a link.
Well i found a solution to the problem with a nice little firefox custom search which gets rid of wikipedia from all your searches!

Ok so i spend alot of my time searching, mainly on google or my new love Search.io and alot of the time i am experimenting with searches, keywords, looking at meta tags etc..
So being a bit geeky like that i decided to try seaching on google for “search engine” and got some results that really suprised me, heres a quick list of what i found using the term without quotes

So no google? they appear a lowly 21st on the list, so why? When google is clearly the the biggest and most popular search engine on the web. The search results are looking at the sites as a whole, ie yahoo is alot more than just search and notice there are a few sites on there that are not search engines.
Anyone care to comment as to why they think this has happened?
